Borders & Exits
“Borders and Exits” was a group new media art exhibition of 15 Georgian artists, exploring the fluid and rigid characteristics of borders across natural, anthropogenic, mental, and virtual dimensions. It opened on April 27th at Art House, one of the few independent cultural spaces in Gori, the birthplace of Stalin, still scarred by the 2008 Russian invasion of Georgia.
Only 20 km away from the exhibition space lies the creeping occupation border of the de facto region of South Ossetia, controlled by Russian military forces. The exhibition was a response to the threat of closure of the space due to ongoing efforts from the Georgian government to censor independent voices.
